This, according to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, who said the incident occurred around 7 a.m. on Star Road. A deputy with the sheriff’s office who is assigned as the school resource officer for McLaurin schools was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic in front of the schools. The deputy was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and is now recovering at home, according to the sheriff’s office. The victim’s identity was not released, nor was any information about the driver of the vehicle. “We ask that the public keep the deputy involved, his family, and his colleagues in your thoughts and prayers,” the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office said.
