Milwaukee, WI - Police body camera videos have been released of an officer-involved shooting that took place late the night of July 4. Initial reports revealed that after hearing multiple gunshots around 2:15 a.m. on July 5, a vehicle fleeing from the scene struck an officer, which prompted the team responding to fire multiple rounds into the vehicle. According to a criminal complaint, the 18-year-old driver was told to exit the vehicle, but he ignored the commands and tried to speed away. The officer who was hit was taken to a hospital for leg pain, where they found a visible laceration/puncture to her leg. The vehicle continued to flee after hitting the officer, side-swiping at least one vehicle, entering the oncoming traffic lane, and disregarding multiple red lights, until it crashed into another vehicle. After crashing, the victim in the other vehicle, a silver Toyota Rav 4, watched the driver attempt to continue driving away, but ultimately parked and ran on foot. The victim, who hit his head on the steering wheel, proceeded to lose consciousness and didn’t wake up until after arriving at the hospital. The assailant, meanwhile, was eventually caught and taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. A video captured shortly after midnight Sunday morning appears to show a Milwaukee police officer was injured after a personal firework exploded near her during Fourth of July celebrations. This happened in the Walgreens parking lot near the intersection of Brady and Farwell, near one of the city's entertainment districts overnight. Video shows a Milwaukee Police Department officer falling to the ground and holding her face after the firework exploded. MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Police release body camera footage from an officer-involved shooting after a traffic stop that led to a chase and foot pursuit on the city’s northwest side. Police conducted a traffic stop near Fond du Lac Avenue and W. Locust Street for a registration violation around 4:49 p.m. on February 3. The suspect initially stopped, and then later drove off, causing police to chase since he was driving recklessly. The police pursuit ended when the driver got out of his vehicle near 98th and W. Lisbon Avenue and fled on foot toward a house. The body camera footage shows officers giving commands to drop the gun. The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Joshua Wippert of Milwaukee, died from gun shots at the hospital. Officers recovered the gun Wippert allegedly used. Two Milwaukee police officers–a 46-year-old male with over 10 years of service and a 40-year-old male with over 8 years of service–are on administrative duty during the investigation. The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be investigating this incident.
