KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A jury has found Kaiden Cole, 18, guilty of all charges in the April 2025 shooting death of Montine Wiley. Cole, 18, a Harper Creek High School senior, was charged with open murder, felony firearm and carrying a concealed weapon after Wiley, 27, was shot and killed while working at a private event outside Green Door Distilling in Kalamazoo. Cole could be sentenced to up to life in prison. Prior to Thursday's verdict, Kalamazoo County Judge Judge Rebecca J. D'Angelo closed the courtroom to the public as people had been acting inappropriately and were being loud during Cole's trial. Immediate family members, however, were still allowed to be inside the courtroom, Williams said. Anyone who was not immediate family was be able to watch the trial on a video feed. After the courtroom closed, tensions carried on outside the courthouse. A fight broke out between individuals associated with both Cole and Wiley. Two staffers at a Smoothie King were fired after Erika Lindemyer went into the store with her husband Jake, who was wearing a hoodie with 'TRUMP' on the front. The employees at the Ann Arbor location denied service to the couple on Sunday after stating that Jake's hoodie made them uncomfortable. 'We were just wanting a smoothie and you literally looked at us, and I asked you if everything was okay,' Lindemyer began in a video she posted on Facebook of the ordeal. 'You said we don't feel comfortable serving you because of my husband's hoodie. That is discrimination,' she told the employees in the video. FLINT, Mich.— Two special needs children were rescued from neglect in Flint Township this week in what police are calling a situation "no human being should endure." According to the Flint Township Police Department, deputies responded to a welfare check at a home after a neighbor called 911. "It felt less like entering a home and more like stepping into abandonment itself," police said in a Facebook post. The house was in disarray, with trash covering the floor and the bathroom faucet left running. Feces were smeared along the walls at a child's height and paint splattered across the walls and floors. When officers continued searching the home, they found one child eating raw, spoiled meat, and the other curled up on the bathroom floor. Detectives quickly confirmed that the two children had been left for days. After questioning the mother, officers "dismantled the mother's lies and followed the evidence until the truth came to light." Sterling Heights, MI - A Detroit man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Tennessee was taken into custody over the weekend after allegedly stealing things from a Walmart in Sterling Heights. According to the Sterling Heights Police Department, officers were called to the Walmart at 14 Mile and Van Dyke around 3 p.m. Saturday on a report of stolen items. When the officer was speaking to the suspect, later identified as Dashonn Moten, the suspect took off on foot and ran into the City of Warren. Officers chased the suspect and eventually took him into custody on Van Dyke. Police say he tried to evade officers by running through wooded areas and shedding layers of clothing. According to the Knoxville Police Department, Moten was wanted in connection with the November 16, 2025, murders of two men and the shooting of a third man. He was wanted by the U.S. Marshals.
