Court documents show Trevor Restivo, 31, was referred for a competency exam in Marquette County District Court on June 18. His case has been disposed until then. Restivo faces 10 charges, including assault with intent to murder. Those charges stem from an incident on June 5 that began with an alleged shooting in Marquette and ended in Negaunee. Law enforcement says the Marquette Police Department responded that day to a call of a reported disturbance on Baraga Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they located a 33-year-old man with apparent gunshot wounds inside the apartment. A second male victim, 68, was also located in the apartment with minor injuries. Police say before they arrived, Trevor Restivo fled the scene and drove to Negaunee, where Michigan State Police troopers began pursuing his vehicle. The pursuit ended when Restivo drove into the diesel pumps at the Negaunee Krist Gas Station, causing an explosion.

Michigan parents charged with second-degree murder after their 7-year-old son died

Michigan parents charged with second-degree murder after their 7-year-old son died, weighing 255 pounds. Casper O’Brien was just 4'2'' but weighed 255 pounds when he passed away, over 4x the weight of a healthy 7-year-old at that height. Damien and Jessica O’Brien were charged with murder, child abuse, and torture. They were also reportedly hoarders. Casper never went to school and only went to the doctor once. He died from heart failure. Prosecutor David Leyton says the O’Briens also have a 5-year-old daughter. "None of these kids even existed in the eyes of the government. CPS had never been out there; nobody knew about these kids, they had not been to school," he said. Officers used force to remove him after he resisted. The suspect is now facing multiple charges. Video shows Grand Rapids police officers punching a man as they tried to pull from a car and arrest him. The man is 21-year-old Emran Sharifi, who was the passenger in a car during a traffic stop, court documents show. Police say the driver failed to use a turn signal while making a turn from Kalamazoo Avenue SE on to Dickinson Street SE, prompting the stop. Officers then noticed Sharifi was not wearing a seat belt, court documents said. He told them he had taken it off as they were approaching the car. Officers asked him his name. They say he Sharifi refused to provide it and wouldn’t provide identification. Officers told Sharifi that if he did not provide his name or ID, he would be placed under arrest for failure to identify. They say he still refused to comply. Sharifi was then told he was under arrest. Court records say he resisted. At some point during this encounter, the driver of the vehicle began recording on his cellphone. In the video, officers can be seen struggling to remove Sharifi from the car. A few seconds in, officers appear to punch Sharifi in the face. National police procedure expert Roy Taylor told News 8 that he disagreed with the punch to the face as a tactic. “What the video does depict is that one of the officers at one point strikes the passenger in the chin a few times, which in my opinion was not consistent with current policing methods,” Taylor said. “I reserve punching in the face for active resistance, meaning that the person we’re trying to take into custody is aggressively assaulting law enforcement officers.” The video continues to show officers struggle to remove Sharifi from the car. At one point, officers punch his leg multiple times. Taylor said that is a standard tactic. “They’re trying to use pain compliance to we call “change the channel”: Get the person’s thought off of resisting by blocking his legs. Now he’s thinking about the pain in his thigh or other parts of his body,” Taylor explained. Sharifi was eventually dragged out of the car to the ground, landing on an officer’s leg, the video shows. Police say that officer’s leg was broken. The video has sparked questions about whether the use of force was appropriate.

Flint gas station shooting video prompts police investigation

FLINT, Mich. - A viral video showing gunshots being fired at a gathering outside a Flint gas station over the weekend has caught the attention of police. Sergeant Paul Spann with the Flint Police Department said the gunshots were fired during an unauthorized gathering at a gas station on the corner of Saginaw and Carpenter Road. Spann said their department is still searching for answers about the violence over the weekend, and is working on short and long-term solutions to curb violence in the community. The shooting happened on Sunday, just after 3 a.m. Officers with the Flint police department responded to a call for service at a local hospital and spoke with an adult male who was the victim of a gunshot wound. Spann said the victim confirmed that the shooting occurred at an intersection not far from the gas station seen in the viral video. The victim was listed in good condition and had no further information, according to Span.

The parasitic plague - Hamtramck Michigan City Council Meeting.

Suspect throws lit Molotov cocktail on cruiser before fatal OIS

Grand Rapids PD officers responded to the scene after the man threatened to kill his family; he tried to set a cruiser ablaze, carjacked a woman and attacked a K-9 before the shooting. GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — In a backyard, six Grand Rapids police officers surrounded an armed man who had threatened to kill his family. Officers commanded 46-year-old Eddie Deans Jr. to put his “hands up” as police tried to apprehend the fleeing man in a backyard on the city’s southeast side. The encounter ended with one officer firing four to five shots at Deans as he allegedly lunged toward police. Deans was pronounced dead at the scene. Interim Grand Rapids Police Chief Joe Trigg released video clips on Wednesday, June 3, from body-worn and in-car cameras of the violent encounter that led to the fatal shooting. Trigg said the department has not made any conclusions on whether the officer involved acted consistently with the law, department policies and training. Michigan State Police is currently investigating the shooting. About seven minutes of video was released Wednesday, showing various angles of what police encountered that day. The incident started around 1:15 p.m. Saturday, May 30, when Deans’ mother called 911 to have police respond to her home on Alpine Avenue NW. She told a dispatcher Deans threatened her grandson with a knife, she told MLive/The Grand Rapids Press. When an officer arrived, dashcam footage shows Deans throwing a lit Molotov cocktail at the police cruiser, while spraying the windshield with lighter fluid. Deans, still armed with a knife, then fled on foot through the neighborhood and tried to carjack a motorist. A woman screamed loudly as she fled from the vehicle, footage shows. Police tracked Deans down in a backyard at Widdicomb Avenue NW near 12th Street. A police K-9, Digo, was released to subdue the man. Deans stabbed the dog in the head, as well as in its protective vest. Officers deployed less-lethal weapons, but they were not effective. As Deans crept around a staircase, officers commanded him to put his hands up. Video shows Deans lunge toward police with one officer firing, killing Deans. Deans struggled with mental health issues for years. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, anti-social personality disorder and borderline personality disorder while in prison, Kent County Probate Court records said. Deans also had a troubled past. He was 16 when he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 1996 and was sentenced to 12 to 50 years in prison. He and two others were convicted in the December 1995 killing of Badri Denise Mullen, who was kicked in the head by the three after refusing to settle a crack cocaine debt. Deans was paroled from prison in February 2025. Digo, the police dog, has been released from an animal emergency hospital and is recovering at home with his handler.

Michigan House Democrat candidate Shelby Campbell's grassroots campaign to engage you

Michigan House Democrat candidate Shelby Campbell's grassroots campaign to engage younger voters continues to get more extreme

Michigan Landlord Seen Having Sex On Tenant's Security Camera

Bonnet down, leg up in the air has me weak

19-year-old Michigan woman speaks out after surviving a deadly crash in which her car

19-year-old Michigan woman speaks out after surviving a deadly crash in which her car split in half, caused by a drunk driver

A woman shared her experience at a private pool in Shelby Township, Michigan

A woman in a full burqa entered the water, violating the club’s swimwear rules.
