Cook County Correctional Facility found Thomas Diskin, 57, deceased, lying around his cell’s toilet in January 2023, with no signs of foul play, only finding shreds of paper with signatures on them. A Virginia lab tested the paper and found the strips were soaked in a synthetic cannabinoid called Pinaca, according to the New York Post. Shortly after, 2 more inmates were found dead with very similar circumstances. According to the Post, a 12x12 piece of paper could be worth up to $10,000. Multiple staffers were reportedly arrested for smuggling it to inmates. "And how do you keep it out of schools, because it’s on pieces of paper? It’s terrifying. It would be worse than the fentanyl in the street," said Cook County Sheriff’s Office chief of staff Brad Curry. Jonathan Olley was picked up by the driver in Durham City on December 8 last year and asked to be taken to West Cornforth. The 38-year-old, who was so drunk the driver had to get him to pay £20 upfront for the journey, became increasingly agitated when he couldn’t find the address. Olley then began raining punches into the victim’s head, called him racial slurs, and threatened to kill his family. The victim suffered injuries to his head and jaw as a result of the attack. In a victim impact statement, he said: “During the incident I felt very scared and was worried that he would not leave the vehicle and continue to assault me. “After the male exited the taxi I continued to work for approximately an hour and a half, but during this time I was still scared and did not pick up anyone who was drunk. “I then ended my shift early as I did not feel like I wanted to work anymore due to the assault and fear.” Olley, of Grisedale Gardens, in Gateshead, was arrested and charged with racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He admitted the offence, which he committed while already serving a suspended sentence, and was jailed for 80 weeks at Teesside Crown Court on Monday (March 23). A man was arrested on Sunday after verbally abusing staff at Whataburger on N Main Street, then returning to assault the manager. A video circulating on social media shows the manager taking control of the situation, using a trash can in self-defense, and forcing the suspect out of the store. According to reports, 41-year old Anthony William Newhuis of Spring, Texas, was ordered to leave by the manager after verbally abusing the staff and did so but threatened to return and assault the manager after officers left. Later, Newhuis returned to the restaurant and assaulted the manager by striking him with his fist multiple times. The manager recovered and was able to gain control of Newhuis and force him to leave the inside of the store. A video circulating on social media shows the manager using a trash can in self-defense before Newhuis stands and walks out the door. “Paris Police and Lamar County Sheriff’s Deputies found the suspect on the back parking lot of the property bleeding from the head.” After receiving the details of the incident, Newhuis was arrested and charged with Assault resulting in Bodily injury and Public Intoxication. He was taken to a medical facility for treatment of his injury and then placed in city jail. While in jail, Newhuis flooded the cells intentionally and was subsequently charged with Criminal Mischief less than $750.00.
