The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating after a Catholic church in the Diocese of Brooklyn was vandalised over the weekend for the fourth time in two years. On Saturday, August 1, cameras at St Rita Roman Catholic Church in Queens, New York, captured a masked man hopping the fence and approaching a statue of the Virgin Mary shortly before 2 a.m. The man then proceeded to pull a hammer from his shorts pocket and smashed the statue from its pedestal. ALEXANDRIA, Va. — After a video of a confrontation in an Alexandria Giant Food grocery store went viral on social media, a Maryland woman has been arrested and charged. Alexandria Police say the woman, identified as 34-year-old Shibritney Colbert, could face hate crime charges under the department's newly-developed hate crime and bias policy. On Christmas Day, a man shopping at the grocery store located on Duke Street was assaulted by a woman he did not know. Based on the victim’s statement, comments exchanged prior to the assault, and the totality of the circumstances, investigators believe the victim was targeted because of his sexual orientation. During the incident, Colbert is seen on video pushing the victim and throwing groceries while making derogatory statements. A 911 call reported a fight inside the store. When Alexandria officers arrived, they attempted to detain Colbert in the parking lot, but she left in her car. “During the encounter, the suspect struck the victim, pushed him, threw groceries at him while making derogatory statements that lasted for over a minute," said Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire. “These are crimes that truly impact the community. It’s more than just a criminal offense.
