Around 200 firefighters and emergency personnel were deployed. The building’s position, 1,834 metres above sea level, made access particularly difficult. No injuries have been reported. Completed in 1938, the Kehlsteinhaus was intended to impress visiting dignitaries. Hitler himself visited only rarely. It should not be confused with the Berghof, his nearby mountain residence. The building survived the Second World War without damage from Allied bombing and later became a mountain restaurant and historical visitor site. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Police have detained a person, but their possible connection to the blaze has not been established. The full extent of the damage is not yet confirmed.
