A man armed only with a spatula is being hailed as a hero for fending off a maniac terrorizing an In-N-Out Burger in Southern California. Footage of wild encounter showed the unidentified drive-thru defender engaging with a woman swinging a large piece of wood inside the eatery in Lake Elsinore. The customer who captured the crazy showdown described watching it all unfold, saying she first heard a young man in the car in front of her in the drive-thru yell to a woman inside to “Get the F out of here.” She said she initially thought the pair was just having some kind of “beef,” believing they knew each other. FRESNO, Calif. — A woman was arrested after police say she drove recklessly with children in her vehicle following a hit-and-run crash in Fresno. The Fresno Police Department says officers responded around 6:07 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, to a crash near Shields and Fowler Avenues, with the driver leaving the scene. Officers later located the suspect vehicle traveling west on Highway 180. Police helicopter AIR1 followed the vehicle from above and reported seeing it speeding, driving on the shoulder, tailgating and sideswiping another vehicle. The driver eventually crashed into a guardrail near the Blackstone and Abby Avenue exit. Police say a juvenile passenger got out and ran to an officer for help. That child had visible head injuries, while a second juvenile reported pain from the crash. The driver, identified as 41-year-old Brooke Smith, showed signs of impairment. Corona police released body-worn camera footage showing the moments before an officer fatally shot a 25-year-old man who authorities said attacked an elderly woman with a rock and later advanced toward the officer with a knife in July. The newly released community incident debrief identifies the man killed in the July 17 shooting as Isaiah Masiel, 25, of Corona, and includes 911 calls from witnesses, a photograph of the injured woman and footage from the officer who shot him. Police were called around 6:30 a.m. to East Parkridge Avenue after witnesses reported Masiel had attacked the woman with a rock. One caller told a dispatcher he had picked up the injured woman and was watching Masiel from a distance as he walked through the area. Another caller reported that Masiel followed her as she walked her dog and had a long knife in a sheath on his belt. She told the dispatcher that Masiel took out the knife at one point but did not threaten her with it. The debrief video also includes a photograph of the woman following the attack, showing extensive bruising. An officer arrived within about three minutes. Body-worn camera footage shows the officer approaching Masiel and repeatedly ordering him to sit down. Masiel refuses and pushes over the officer’s police motorcycle. The officer draws his gun and begins backing away while calling for additional officers, the footage shows. Masiel moves toward the officer as the officer continues retreating and repeatedly tells him to stop. Masiel tells the officer to shoot him as he continues moving toward him, according to the footage, and then pulls out a large knife. The footage shows Masiel moving toward a car, where police said the woman and the witness were, while holding the knife before the car speeds away. Masiel then turns back toward the officer with the knife raised and moves toward him as the officer continues backing away and ordering him to stop. The officer then fires several rounds. Police said Masiel was struck once, and was declared dead at the scene. Police said the officer had retreated about 100 feet during the encounter. The officer, whose name was not released in the video, has been a sworn officer for seven years and is assigned to the department’s Traffic Bureau. Los Angeles, California — On July 29, 2026, at around 6:25pm., Los Angeles Police Officers assigned to Olympic Division responded to a report of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon (ADW) suspect there now, at a gas station located at Normandie Avenue and Washington Boulevard. The suspect was later identified as 33-year-old Alejandro Garcia. The reporting party stated that Garcia, armed with a metal bat, had shattered the windows of multiple vehicles and attempted to strike passing community members. As officers approached the location, the overhead air unit advised the officers that Garcia was walking southbound on Normandie Avenue beneath the Interstate 10 Freeway. Officers located Garcia walking toward them while holding an aluminum bat in his right hand. After exiting their patrol vehicle, officers repeatedly ordered Garcia to drop the bat. Garcia refused to comply with verbal direction, continued advancing toward the officers, and raised the bat with both hands into a swinging position resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS). Garcia was struck once, fell to the ground, and dropped the bat. Officers formed an arrest team, took Garcia into custody, and immediately rendered medical aid until personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived and assumed care. Garcia was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. A 35-inch aluminum softball bat was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence. A reported free-speech rally in Los Angeles turned chaotic on August 23 after counter-protesters confronted activist Eoin Richard, who was hosting an anti-Islam demonstration. Connolly, publicly known as Eoin Richard, organized a “Take Back LA” free-speech rally criticizing Islam. He originally advertised the event outside the Islamic Center of Southern California on Vermont Avenue. Opponents circulated a pre-event advisory describing the gathering as a “far-right” rally and accusing organizers of targeting the Muslim community. As counter-protesters gathered outside the Islamic center, Richard reportedly redirected supporters to the nearby Precious Blood Catholic Church in Koreatown. The move did not end the confrontation. Two climbers had to be airlifted to safety in the Big Sur area on Saturday, August 22, after they became stranded on a steep chute 600 feet below the road, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) Coastal Division Air Operations. Footage released by CHP Coastal Division Air Operations shows the dramatic rescue near Hurricane Point on Saturday evening. Due to the steep terrain and the inability to safely dismount from the hoist, a helicopter rescue technician was lowered to assist the first victim while remaining attached to the hoist. Once the technician secured the first climber in a rescue harness and they were extracted, the technician was lowered once again to rescue the second victim using the same procedure. “These high-risk, low-frequency rescues are exactly what CHP Air Operations personnel continuously train for. An Amazon driver in Elk Grove, California, was arrested after allegedly following a 71-year-old man into a gas station and punching him over a parking spot, leaving the man with a concussion. "Our client is a 71-year-old auditor of agricultural and animal production facilities. During his work day, he stopped at an ARCO Gas Station in Elk Grove, California to go to the bathroom and get a soft drink. Apparently, the Amazon driver felt that our client took his parking spot. The Amazon driver reacted hyper aggressively. The Amazon driver confronted our client in the parking lot, followed him into the store, and ultimately assaulted him from behind. Our client is currently being treated for neck pain as well as a concussion. The Amazon driver was arrested and charged with felony battery and elder abuse, among other charges. We believe the Amazon driver has a history of violence. Amazon delivery folks must be carefully screened and trained. Amazon must do better in the hiring process. When Amazon fails, like here, it must be held accountable. The civil case against Amazon is on file in Superior Court of California, Sacramento County.
