MARANA, Ariz.. - The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team released new footage of an officer-involved shooting that happened at a Marana hotel in January. The Pima County Sheriff's Department said deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant on two suspects, 41-year-old Justin Stone and 48-year-old Terease Sturges, on Jan. 11. Both were wanted in connection with an armed robbery. The suspects were believed to be staying at a Marana hotel near Cortaro Farms and Interstate 10. Both of them ran from police on foot through the hotel and eventually made it to the lobby. Stone then pointed two handguns towards hotel staff and a deputy. That's when he was shot by police. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The woman he was with was also arrested. TUCSON, Ariz.- Video from an officer-involved shooting in Tucson earlier this year was released on Friday, March 20. The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team released the video, which can be watched below, that shows the incident that happened near Campbell and Bilby on Jan. 23. The PRCIT said it started around 5:30 p.m. when officers saw a stolen vehicle near South 6th Avenue and Valencia. Officers said the vehicle sped away, but they didn’t chase it and called in air support to track it from a safe distance. The vehicle later pulled into an apartment complex in the 6200 block of South Campbell, and the people inside got out and walked into the complex. Officers were able to find two of the suspects, but they tried to run away. PRCIT said 27-year-old Frankie Felipe Silvas was one of those people, and identified him as the driver of the stolen vehicle. Silvas allegedly then got on the ground and pointed a gun at the officers. PRCIT said Silvas pulled the trigger, but the gun did not go off. That is when Officer Anthony Weeks, a 10-year veteran of the TPD, shot Silvas. Silvas was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries. He was then charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, misconduct involving weapons, and drug sales. As of March 20, he was still being held in a medical unit at the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. As part of the PRCIT, the University of Arizona Police Department is the lead investigating agency for this officer-involved shooting. The Tucson Police Department will conduct a separate but parallel investigation to determine if any policy violations occurred. TUCSON, Ariz. - A shooting at Park Place Mall on Wednesday night has left the Tucson community shaken. As of now, the Tucson Police Department reports that the suspect is still at large, leaving a lingering sense of unease among those who were present. Police say the incident began as a fight between kids. Although the mall has since reopened, many who were there are hesitant to return. Paige Stewart, who was in the mall with her mother and 5-year-old daughter, shared her experience. "This is the mall I grew up going up— it doesn’t happen here— then it does," Stewart said. She described the frightening moment when gunshots rang out near the crowded food court and children’s playground. "Just heard it was like six or seven gunshots that went off," Stewart said. The family, along with others, took shelter in a bathroom for over an hour. "I shoved my five year old against the wall and put myself over her," Stewart said. Two individuals were taken to the hospital following the shooting. The Tucson Police Department emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "This type of violence in a public space is deeply concerning." They say the shooting appears to be isolated. As the mall's parking lot fills up and shoppers return, Stewart reflects on the traumatic event. "I genuinely in the moment was worried we weren’t gonna make it out," Stewart said. "I was thinking we aren’t going make it out of here." In response to the incident, Park Place Mall released a statement to News 4 Tucson, saying, "Our guests, employees, and community's safety remain our top priority. Thank you to the Tucson Police Department for their swift response to yesterday's incident." Throughout the day, increased security measures have been observed, with mall security making rounds outside and Tucson police patrolling inside. The suspect in tan sprinted inside the store and started causing a scene / disturbing the customers and staff. Clerks told him to leave the store but he refused and began threatening them. The clerks end up having to physically remove the suspect from the store and told him to leave the property. The suspect refused to leave the property and began threatening the clerks in the parking lot. The suspect then lunged at one of the clerks and began violently attacking him. The clerks didn't let this slide and proceeded throw down with the suspect. (Which is when i started recording) The suspect got back up following his beat down, caught his breath, and then proceeded to attack the clerks again. When confronted, Graff jumped back into the truck and rammed a police cruiser, nearly pinning one of our officers between two vehicles. He then fled the scene, speeding on the wrong side of the road and narrowly avoiding other cars. On December 29th around 8pm, Glendale officers spotted someone grab armfuls of clothing and make a run for the door. The suspect bolted past the registers, but our officers weren't having it. After a short foot chase, they caught up and placed him in handcuffs. More officers arrived to assist with Dillard's staff to document everything. Turns out the suspect tried to steal 7 items worth over $1,000. But wait, there's more. He also had multiple outstanding warrants from Maricopa County. He's now booked on shoplifting charges plus those warrants. Body camera video from the fatal deputy-involved shooting in Vai last year was released on Friday, Feb. 13. PRCIT previously reported that 47-year-old John Allan McDonald died after he was shot by a deputy from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. The incident began around 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, when deputies were called to a home in the 400 block of South Stone Bench, which is near Houghton and Sahuarita. The PCSD said it received multiple reports about a domestic violence incident involving a gun. PRCIT said McDonald fired at least one round outside the home and walked away. Another deputy came across McDonald in the 300 block of South Creosote Draw Road. According to PRCIT, McDonald was armed and ignored multiple commands to stop and show his hands. Instead, McDonald allegedly pulled the gun from his pocket and started walking toward the deputy. That is when the deputy fired and hit McDonald. No one else was injured in the incident, according to PRCIT. The deputy who fired his weapon was identified as John Hisey-Long, a three-year veteran of the PCSD. As part of the PRCIT, the Tucson Police Department has been assigned primary responsibility for the criminal investigation of this deputy-involved shooting. The PCSD will conduct a separate, but parallel administrative investigation to examine the actions of our personnel.
