TAMPA, Fla. - A woman who was arrested on DUI charges was caught on camera driving the wrong way in Hillsborough County. Dashcam video from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office shows a driver traveling the wrong way around 12:30 a.m. on Sheldon Road near West Linebaugh Avenue. The driver, Kami Ellis, 52, was seen jumping a curb before coming to a stop. When the deputy asks if the woman is feeling okay, she replies with," Yeah. I’m good." He told her she was driving the wrong way on the road and hopped a curb. The deputy asks if she can shut off the car and then says, "You don’t know how to shut your car off? Is this your car?" When he asks for her driver’s license, the woman is seen fumbling through a wallet, and the deputy tells her that she pulled out a credit card and a Barnes and Noble gift card. Once the woman is out of the vehicle, the deputy asks her to take one step forward. He then tells her to put her glasses on and her hands behind her back before placing her in handcuffs. Ellis was charged with DUI.

A lawyer for the family of Emeshyon Wilkins released the video, along with a report showing how police violated their own policies in the fatal encounter. St. Louis, MO - A newly released video shows a St. Louis police officer killing a 17-year-old in June 2024—and reacting with shock when he seemingly realizes the teen had a cell phone, not a gun, in his hand. An attorney working for the family of Emeshyon Wilkins has made public the body cam video of the shooting, as well as an independent analysis of what happened that day in the city’s The Ville neighborhood. Footage from the body cam of the officer who shot Wilkins shows the teen running from the police as the officer shouts, “Get on the fucking ground now” and twice yells, “Drop the fucking gun.” Shots ring out and Wilkins falls. Officers approach the teen’s dead body, put his hands behind his back and cuff him. The shooting officer says, “Fuck!” and then, “The gun’s right fucking here.” It’s unclear what the officer is referring to. Wilkins had in his pockets pieces of a disassembled weapon, but it seems unlikely he could have in any way brandished those pieces at the officer who shot him, according to the report compiled by Gregory Gilbertson, an expert in police use of force. The officer who shot Wilkins was one of 14 officers comprising an Anti-Crime Task Force working in Baden to recover stolen vehicles. When officers attempted to arrest Wilkins, he led them on a chase into The Ville while driving a stolen silver Mazda CX-5. Wilkins bailed out of the vehicle near the 4200 block of St. Louis Avenue. A brief foot pursuit lasted no more than 20 seconds and ended with Wilkins being shot in the back of the head. Last May, Wilkins’ parents, Shaina Wilkins and Emanuel Mays, filed suit against the city and the officer who shot and killed their son. They are represented by Al Watkins, who is releasing the body cam footage for the first time today. “It was a Frigidaire frost-free felony,” Watkins said of the shooting. “At best it demonstrates wholesale mal-governance of the city and police department. At worst … very dangerous ignorance of a most horrid nature. I assure you that this young man would be alive and preparing for high school graduation if he resided in the 63124 ZIP code,” he added, referencing an affluent area that includes Ladue. Watkins said the shooting officer was never disciplined and remains on desk duty.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office released video on Wednesday that is evidence of the ongoing investigation into a fatal deputy-involved shooting. A deputy shot Karen Ivette Gomez, who was wielding a knife inside a home at about 4:05 p.m. on Feb. 7 in the area of Northwest 189th Street and 55th Avenue, according to M-DSO. Gomez’s tearful daughter called 911 to report that she was scared because her mother was in the bathroom with a knife, according to the audio of a 911 call that was also released by M-DSO. “Regardless of the outcome, my commitment is clear, to be transparent with our community, to hold ourselves to the highest standards, and to continue working every day to earn and maintain your trust,” Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said in a statement. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been investigating the shooting since. “Let me come help you, we have Miami-Dade fire rescue outside,” a deputy told Gomez after entering the home and standing outside the bathroom, according to the video released. Gomez did not follow the deputy’s orders to walk outside. “There is no more help; I can’t with this anymore,” Gomez said, according to the video. Deputies knocked down the door. There was blood on the floor. Deputies near the door were pointing at her with a Taser and a firearm. “Drop the knife,” a deputy told Gomez, who responded with a “No!” A deputy shot at Gomez twice, according to M-DSO. She had cut both of her wrists, according to M-DSO. Gomez died at the hospital. She was 52.

A female citizen exited her vehicle to enter the store. She placed her purse in the cross-body position but just before entering the suspect, 38-year-old Aaron Vigil, stopped her grabbed ahold of her purse and violently ripped it away from her as she fell to ground and was dragged a short distance. Officers located an individual and a vehicle that matched the description of the robbery suspect near 8th Street and Glendale Avenue. A vehicle pursuit ensued, leading to the suspect's vehicle crashing in the 700 block of West 8th Street. Upon contact, the male suspect produced a knife. Officers issued multiple commands for him to drop the knife, but he refused to comply and was subsequently shot. After being shot, the suspect began to stab himself. Officers deployed tasers in an attempt to prevent the suspect from causing further harm to himself and to allow officers to provide aid without the risk of being injured. Once the suspect was disarmed, several officers rendered aid, and he was transported to a hospital by medical personnel, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
