The man shot by police in Madison today is Corey D. Ruiz (Corey Durell Ruiz), according to two sources in a position to know. Madison’s police chief says that an officer was injured with a knife wielded by the man before the officer shot him. A disturbing video has gone viral. Madison Police Chief John Patterson said in a news conference that an officer with the Madison Police Department was involved in a shooting on the city’s near east side. MPD officers were dispatched to a call just before 1 p.m. on July 22 for a report of a person allegedly checking parked vehicles, he said. Officers located the man and attempted to contact him. He fled on a bicycle and traveled through some nearby backyards in an attempt to get away. Officers connected again with the man at 1:30 p.m., said the chief. The man fell off or was taken off the bicycle by officers, according to the chief. He said a physical struggle ensued with officers in the middle of the intersection. “During the struggle, the man pulled out a knife or produced a knife, fixed blade knife, and an officer was injured by this while attempting to arrest him,” Patterson said. “A taser was deployed.” It was unsuccessful. The officer who was injured by the knife was the same officer who fired his weapon at this man, Patterson said. Four officers were involved. Only the one officer fired his weapon. A second officer also injured. It’s not clear how that injury occurred, but police don’t think it was from the knife. He described the man as being in his 30s and said he was taken to the hospital, but has died. Palm Springs police released a critical incident video Wednesday showing the moments leading up to a fatal officer-involved shooting that happened on May 28th. Officers were called to the 1200 block of East Palm Canyon Drive around 3:41 p.m. that day after someone reported a man waving a knife and acting erratically toward employees at an area motel. Police identified the man as Gilberto Flores of Desert Hot Springs, though his age wasn't released. The newly released video shows Flores on the second story of the building with the knife, along with audio from the initial 911 call. The Palm Springs Police Department then showed footage of officers trying to talk Flores down and using less-lethal options, including help from the department's Community Behavioral Assessment Team, a unit meant to handle mental health crises. Flores is eventually seen on body cam and drone footage approaching officers with the knife, and at one point entering a police vehicle. The video then shows police used tasers and sponge rounds on the suspect, but eventually three officers open fire. According to the initial report from police, first responders tried to save Flores at the scene, but he died from his injuries at an area hospital. No officers were hurt. According to Captain Gustavo M. Araiza of the Palm Springs Police Department, the case now moves through three separate reviews. The Riverside County Sheriff's Force Investigation Division is investigating the shooting itself, and that investigation will then go to the Riverside County District Attorney's Office. Palm Springs police will also run their own internal administrative review. Gavin Thor Lundgren was alleged to be driving 75 in a 45 MPH zone when Stone County Sheriff’s Office deputies in Missouri tried to pull him over. Lundgren pulled into a parking lot, circled around the building, and took off, which led to a high-speed chase. Lundgren then led police to a bridge, where he opened the door of the vehicle, got out, and jumped headfirst off the bridge. Officers then peeked over the bridge and eventually into Lundgren's car, where they saw his driver's license sitting in the front passenger seat. Officers tracked him down near the shoreline, leading to a fight between him and the officers, where Lundgren headbutted officers, leaving 3 officers with scrapes and facial lacerations. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has determined that two San Jose police officers lawfully shot and killed a man in a park who was charging at them with a knife. Mateusz Dzierbun, 48, of Fremont, had just stabbed his 9-year-old son to death last summer when he attacked the responding officers. Just before he raised his knife and ran at the officers, Dzierbun told them: “Whoever killed someone before needs to be here,” and, “If you get the stun bag, I’m going to get up and charge this guy.” The officers – who had warned him numerous times to drop the knife so they could attend to his clearly badly injured child – shot Dzierbun 14 times. The report says: “The officers were confronted with an extraordinarily dangerous and rapidly evolving situation. The evidence before them indicated only two possibilities: either Dzierbun had already murdered his son, demonstrating his homicidal intent, or the child had been stabbed by Dzierbun and required immediate lifesaving aid.” The District Attorney’s Office investigates all fatal law enforcement encounters to determine if the lethal force was legal. By law, officers can use deadly force when they or others face imminent danger. The fatal stabbing and subsequent police shooting happened in sunny Cataldi Park, near where a group of people were taking pickleball lessons. On July 13, 2025, at approximately 3:23 p.m., Dzierbun called 911 to report that his son had been stabbed and “is dead.” At first, he said another man had killed him, and later admitted that he had killed his child, telling dispatch that, “They were going to torture him… I had to do it.” Officers Eduardo Eyer and Kevin McAlindon were the first officers to arrive at the park, at approximately 3:31 p.m. Dzierbun was approximately 50 feet away, seated on the grass near the body of his child. An officer said, “Sir, will you please drop the knife?” Dzierbun responded, “Listen to me very carefully. I am armed, and one of you guys is going to kill me today. I don’t want to traumatize you.” The officer repeated for a third time, “Sir, I need you to drop the knife,” to which Dzierbun responded, “I don’t want to traumatize anyone here…so listen to me carefully. Whoever killed someone before needs to be here.” Eventually, Officer McAlindon went to get a stun gun. Approximately two minutes after the officers arrived on scene, joined shortly after by Sergeant Joel Casey, Dzierbun stood up, brandished the knife by raising it above his head, and charged at them, body worn camera footage shows. Sgt. Casey and Officer Eyer fired. It’s been just over a month and a half since Benjamin Siegling was shot and wounded by an Albuquerque Police Department officer, after first running from police, then turning back towards police with a knife in his hand. On Thursday, the body cam footage of the shooting was shown in a press conference. On the night of June 2, on Osuna right off I-25, Albuquerque police said Sergeant Paul Durham was on patrol when he noticed someone, later identified as Siegling, jaywalking. APD said Siegling gave a false identity before body cam footage shows him fleeing. After a brief chase through nearby parking lots, video showed Seigling walking towards the officer with a knife, demanding to be shot. After the video showed him repeatedly refusing to drop the knife, Officer Durham opened fire, shooting Seigling once in the chest and once in the shoulder. He survived and was discharged from the University of New Mexico Hospital two weeks later, when he was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center. APD learned he had been recently discharged from parole and had two felony warrants for violating the terms of release related to shoplifting. This shooting drew public scrutiny, as it was the fourth officer-involved shooting in a two-week span. MERIDEN, Conn. — A police officer who fatally shot a man who was beating his father with a baseball bat in Meriden on Sunday had to fire nearly 20 rounds at the man before the son finally fell backwards, stopping the attack. Body camera footage from the police officer who fired the shots, identified as Officer Anthony Offiaeli of the Meriden Police Department, showed the brutality of the bat attack and the moments that preceded the shooting. The footage was released Tuesday along with a preliminary report from the Office of Inspector General, which is investigating to determine if the shooting was justified under Connecticut law. In his preliminary report, Inspector General Eliot Prescott identified the assailant who was shot multiple times as 38-year-old Robert Lee Jenkins III. Though Prescott did not name the victim in his report, he has been identified as 69-year-old Robert Jenkins , Jr. According to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner , Jenkins III died from multiple gunshot sounds of the torso. Jenkins, Jr., died of blunt force head injuries. Both deaths were ruled a homicide, a spokesperson for the medical examiner said. According to Prescott, officers responded to a home on Sagamore Road around 10 a.m. in connection with an active domestic violence incident. Offiaeli’s body camera footage shows him arrive first to the scene, at which point he suddenly shifts his cruiser into park, rushes out from the vehicle and radios in for backup to “step it up.” Offiaeli immediately begins shouting for Jenkins III to drop the bat as he can be seen on the front lawn viciously striking his father, the footage shows. “Put the (expletive) bat down, put the (expletive) bat down,” Offiaeli shouts with his gun drawn. “Put it down.” As he approaches, Offiaeli’s body camera captures Jenkins III repeatedly striking his father with the bat. Though the camera becomes covered at various points while Offiaeli uses his radio, Jenkins III can be seen striking his father at least eight times as he lies helplessly on the ground, the footage shows. Before it was released, Jenkins, Jr. was blurred out from the footage. “Put it down,” Offiaeli shouts one more time. He then begins telling Jenkins III “I’m gonna (expletive)…” before rapidly firing his gun about five times. Jenkins III can be seen continuing to raise the bat over his head and down onto his father before Offiaeli fires two more shots, the footage shows. The assault, however, did not stop there, as Jenkins III appeared unfazed by the shots and continues striking Jenkins, Jr. As he moves in closer, Offiaeli appears to fire about 11 more shots before Jenkins III finally begins to fall backwards. The 56 seconds of footage cuts off as backup officers appear to be arriving at the scene. According to authorities, Jenkins, Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Jenkins III was given medical attention at the scene before being rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m. , Prescott said. The toxicology report from Jenkins III’s autopsy was not yet available, Prescott wrote in his preliminary report. Prescott’s office is investigating to determine whether the shooting was objectively reasonable under Connecticut law. The office is being assisted by the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad, the Meriden Police Department and the New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney’s Office. Milwaukee, WI - Police body camera videos have been released of an officer-involved shooting that took place late the night of July 4. Initial reports revealed that after hearing multiple gunshots around 2:15 a.m. on July 5, a vehicle fleeing from the scene struck an officer, which prompted the team responding to fire multiple rounds into the vehicle. According to a criminal complaint, the 18-year-old driver was told to exit the vehicle, but he ignored the commands and tried to speed away. The officer who was hit was taken to a hospital for leg pain, where they found a visible laceration/puncture to her leg. The vehicle continued to flee after hitting the officer, side-swiping at least one vehicle, entering the oncoming traffic lane, and disregarding multiple red lights, until it crashed into another vehicle. After crashing, the victim in the other vehicle, a silver Toyota Rav 4, watched the driver attempt to continue driving away, but ultimately parked and ran on foot. The victim, who hit his head on the steering wheel, proceeded to lose consciousness and didn’t wake up until after arriving at the hospital. The assailant, meanwhile, was eventually caught and taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
