CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. — Newly-released drone video from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office shows part of the Aug. 29 standoff that led to the arrest of Erik Gordon Shunn, including Shunn firing at a sheriff’s drone before SWAT personnel take him into custody. The short video first shows Shunn sitting on the ground and firing at a CCSO drone. It later cuts to Shunn driving a tractor near the front of his home as a sheriff’s SWAT vehicle moves in and pins the tractor. According to the sheriff’s office, SWAT personnel made the decision to rush in after Shunn got on the tractor and left his rifle behind. Authorities said officers used that window of opportunity because they thought it was likely their best chance to safely take him into custody. The confrontation began after deputies responded to South Rocky Bluff Lane in unincorporated Oregon City on Aug. 29. The sheriff’s office said the 53-year-old Shunn allegedly fired around 20 rounds toward workers cutting down trees. Authorities evacuated the area and issued shelter-in-place alerts as deputies surrounded Shunn’s home. The sheriff’s office said a drone spotted Shunn using a tractor to knock down trees in an apparent attempt to create a barricade. Authorities also said Shunn fired several shots at sheriff’s office drones, which was shown in the video released Wednesday. No one was injured, including Shunn’s mother, who was inside the home during the incident. Shunn was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Anchorage, AK - Anchorage police say a man shot and killed by an officer last week at a South Anchorage Walmart was concealing merchandise with an accomplice. It’s one of several new details of the June 16 incident released by Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case during a press conference Thursday. Case said three officers, one of whom was in field training, responded to a call for service at the Walmart near Dimond Boulevard at around 10:30 p.m. “The officers went into the business believing that they were clearly going to look for the two individuals that were concealing merchandise and found when they arrived that one of them was in fact in the loss prevention office,” Case said. The man being held in the office, later identified as Deandrea Robertson, 33, had concealed merchandise and had an existing warrant for his arrest, Case said. The chief said he believes the amount of merchandise concealed would have qualified for a misdemeanor theft charge. As officers began to take Robertson into custody, he ran for the loss prevention door, but another Walmart employee closed it, Case said. In a very narrow corridor in the office, Case said the officers and Robertson went to the ground as police tried to detain him. “From this position, the subject's able to get access to a handgun that he has on his person, concealed on his person, and fire a round that strikes Officer [Trevor] Amburn in the upper thigh, exits his thigh, and then it goes into his boot and into his ankle,” Case said. “That round actually comes to rest inside of his boot.” During the press conference, Case showed stills from body camera footage that showed Robertson then pointing his handgun backwards over his head. Case said Robertson shot officer Kaden Pohl in his ballistic vest. Another officer, Tae Yoon, suffered hearing damage from the shot and was temporarily blinded by the muzzle flash. Pohl ended up shooting Robertson in response, killing him, Case said. He said all three officers were hospitalized from the incident. “Officer Amburn's injuries, already he was released from the hospital last Saturday,” Case said. “He spent several days in the hospital. Corona police released body-worn camera footage showing the moments before an officer fatally shot a 25-year-old man who authorities said attacked an elderly woman with a rock and later advanced toward the officer with a knife in July. The newly released community incident debrief identifies the man killed in the July 17 shooting as Isaiah Masiel, 25, of Corona, and includes 911 calls from witnesses, a photograph of the injured woman and footage from the officer who shot him. Police were called around 6:30 a.m. to East Parkridge Avenue after witnesses reported Masiel had attacked the woman with a rock. One caller told a dispatcher he had picked up the injured woman and was watching Masiel from a distance as he walked through the area. Another caller reported that Masiel followed her as she walked her dog and had a long knife in a sheath on his belt. She told the dispatcher that Masiel took out the knife at one point but did not threaten her with it. The debrief video also includes a photograph of the woman following the attack, showing extensive bruising. An officer arrived within about three minutes. Body-worn camera footage shows the officer approaching Masiel and repeatedly ordering him to sit down. Masiel refuses and pushes over the officer’s police motorcycle. The officer draws his gun and begins backing away while calling for additional officers, the footage shows. Masiel moves toward the officer as the officer continues retreating and repeatedly tells him to stop. Masiel tells the officer to shoot him as he continues moving toward him, according to the footage, and then pulls out a large knife. The footage shows Masiel moving toward a car, where police said the woman and the witness were, while holding the knife before the car speeds away. Masiel then turns back toward the officer with the knife raised and moves toward him as the officer continues backing away and ordering him to stop. The officer then fires several rounds. Police said Masiel was struck once, and was declared dead at the scene. Police said the officer had retreated about 100 feet during the encounter. The officer, whose name was not released in the video, has been a sworn officer for seven years and is assigned to the department’s Traffic Bureau. A woman who attacked people with a knife in Times Square was shot by police, according to law enforcement.
