Two troopers narrowly avoided injury when lightning struck right next to them south of Rapid City, South Dakota, during a manhunt. The South Dakota Highway Patrol shared on social media and said the incident happened as the troopers were working the manhunt when the storm arrived. In the video, the two troopers, whose names have not been released, can be seen standing near their patrol vehicles and can be heard seemingly discussing the description of what a person was wearing. New body camera video shows a Florida deputy using a Taser on a theft suspect during a confrontation. Steven Rosario Jr., 21, allegedly stole $5 worth of rolling paper from a 7-Eleven located on Lee Boulevard in Fort Myers. The video posted by the Lee County Sheriff's Office shows a deputy responding to the call and finding Rosario in a sitting area at a gas station across the street. In the footage, Rosario resists arrest and then eventually pushes the deputy into a trash can. The deputy then deploys his Taser on Rosario, who fell to the ground. That's when Rosario began to threaten the deputy with his life, saying that he was going to kill him. "Cause you dead when I get up," Rosario said, as the deputy had him pinned to the ground. Oakland, California — On July 13, 2026, just after 2:00 p.m., the California Highway Patrol requested assistance from the Oakland Police Department regarding an armed man being aggressive in the area of 40th Avenue and International Boulevard. CHP officers encountered the armed man at an encampment along State Highway 185. He was ordered to drop his weapons, but he did not comply. He threatened the officers and walked away. CHP officers followed him before calling Oakland Police for assistance. Oakland Police Officers responded and located the man, believed to be 44-year-old Jose Angel Castillo. Castillo was wielding two homemade weapons, each a long metal pole with a knife attached. OPD officers arrived and immediately gave Castillo commands to drop the homemade weapons. Castillo did not comply. He again threatened officers while continuing to walk away as additional officers arrived on scene. While wielding the homemade weapons, Castillo walked to the sidewalk where a man and two children were crouching down behind a tree. As officers closed on his position, Castillo moved toward the man and two children before continuing north on 41st Avenue. An OPD officer who was equipped with a taser stopped to ensure the man and two children were safely past the officer. Officers gave Castillo multiple commands to 'Drop The Knives,' followed by warnings that force would be used if he did not comply. Officers then continued following Castillo into a shopping center parking lot. OPD and CHP officers deployed their tasers, but they were not effective. Castillo then began swinging the long metal poles with knives attached as OPD officers discharged their service weapons. Officers immediately provided medical aid to Castillo until paramedics arrived. Despite their efforts, Castillo died at the scene. VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A hit-and-run driver was arrested Monday night after causing a crash on I-4 involving three other vehicles, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. An FHP spokesperson said the crash happened at around 4:48 p.m. on the eastbound side, near Debary in Volusia County. Troopers said the suspect was driving a Ford F-150 and failed to stop for traffic, rear-ending another driver, which caused that vehicle to rear-end the car in front of them. The suspect then tried to change lanes, rear-ending a third vehicle, causing it to go off the roadway and flip onto its right side. FHP said only one of the crash victims had minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital. Troopers said the suspect fled the scene, but a witness followed the Ford truck and gave updates to law enforcement. FHP said deputies from the Volusia Sheriff's Office eventually located the driver, a 48-year-old man from Deltona, and arrested him for DUI and other criminal charges. RIALTO, Calif. -- Dramatic bodycam video shared by the Rialto Police Department shows an officer saving a 3-year-old boy who was choking. Police received a frantic 911 call on Aug. 5 from a mother who said her 3-year-old son was choking on vomit and was not breathing. The mother told dispatchers that she was driving when she realized her son was experiencing a medical emergency. She pulled over in the 300 block of E. Foothill Boulevard and called 911. When officers arrived, they rushed into action, using a LifeVac airway clearance device to clear the obstruction in the child's airway and restore his ability to breathe. Bodycam video shows the boy wake back up after the LifeVac was used. "You OK, buddy? You OK?" the officer asked, comforting the boy. Paramedics with the Rialto Fire Department took the child to a local medical center for further treatment. Officials said the child made a full recovery. Bodycam video also captured the moment the officers were reunited with the boy and his mother at the hospital. "Thank you, officer... thank you. Because I felt my son was dying on me. New South Wales Ambulance paramedics assessed the 43-year-old at the scene before he was taken to hospital for further assessment under police guard. A 32-year-old man was also arrested. Battle Creek, MI - A Battle Creek man may have to wait a big longer for his first date after city officials filed what they said was the first civil forfeiture lawsuit under the city's updated public nuisance ordinance. The City of Battle Creek announced Friday it is asking a court to forfeit a 2024 Ford Mustang after its driver, identified as Jaylone Porter, allegedly performed donuts in the parking lot of the West Columbia Avenue Meijer gas station, just feet from active fuel pumps. According to the city, the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. on June 14 while a Battle Creek police officer was nearby. Police said Porter used the Mustang, which had been purchased only days earlier, to spin its tires and perform donuts in an apparent attempt to create content for social media. According to the city, Porter admitted what he was doing when officers approached him, telling police, "I just woke up and felt like spinning 'em." The city said he also told officers he "needed a flick for my gram" to boost a livestream and, after being arrested, exclaimed, "This is so cool! I'm locked up!" while estimating the arrest would bring him "at least 100 viewers." Officials said Porter later remarked that he was "not getting caught again" and suggested finding another location where he could continue spinning the vehicle.
