A felony suspect who was fatally shot by police after a short vehicle pursuit that began downtown and ended in a crash on an East Los Angeles freeway off-ramp was identified Thursday.

Jesus Ernesto Jaime, 30, died in the shooting that occurred around 10 a.m. Wednesday on the Olympic Boulevard off-ramp from the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Grafton requested to be transported to Franciscan Hospital in Michigan City. While at the hospital, Samuelson learned that Grafton may have been involved in an earlier criminal incident, and after an altercation, Grafton pulled out a firearm and shot Samuelson 3 times. Grafton then fled the hospital and into a wooded area nearby before deputies arrested him. Samuelson was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital and remains in critical condition.

RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Police said a 31-year-old woman was fatally shot by an officer on May 7, 2026, after officers responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex on Midlothian Turnpike. According to Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:47 p.m. after a man called 911 reporting he heard a gunshot inside an apartment where Jazmin Wooten-Mitchell was located. During the call, people could reportedly be heard attempting to get her to open the door while the caller told dispatchers they believed she had been shot and they could not get inside. Police said a second 911 call was received while officers were en route, reporting that a woman was outside the apartment building firing a gun. When officers arrived, witnesses directed them toward an upstairs area of the complex as residents were seen running from the scene. Investigators said Wooten-Mitchell fired toward an apartment and in the direction of the stairwell as officers approached. One officer then discharged his weapon, striking her. Officers recovered a handgun near Wooten-Mitchell and attempted medical aid, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers or residents were reported injured. Family members and local media identified Wooten-Mitchell as the mother of two children, including a 6-month-old son and a daughter who recently turned 11. Relatives told reporters she had recently experienced the death of one child’s father prior to the incident. No official criminal history for Wooten-Mitchell was publicly released by Richmond Police or court officials as of May 22, 2026.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released video on Wednesday showing the moments that led to the fatal shooting of a man armed with a gun, who police said kicked in the doors of four homes in the Holiday Hill neighborhood earlier this month. On May 4, officers responded to the reports of multiple armed burglaries on Rigel Road off Century 21 Drive. They said that starting around 11:15 p.m., a man identified as 33-year-old Brandon Kaphers had kicked in the doors of four occupied homes while carrying a handgun. Surveillance camera footage shared by JSO showed Kaphers walking up to the front door of a home with a gun in his hand. He appeared to ring the doorbell before kicking in the door and entering the home. You can hear a woman say, “What the [expletive] was that?” Not even a minute later, he walks out of the home, saying, “Man, y’all playing with me.” “Yo, what the ****,” the woman can be heard saying after Kaphers walked out of the home. According to police, Kaphers kicked in the front door of another home, went upstairs and pointed a gun at a resident in her bedroom. She immediately called 911. Kaphers then went to kick in the front doors of two other homes. In another video, officers could be seen pulling up to the neighborhood as Kaphers, who was still armed, was walking across the driveway of some homes. A woman then pointed him out to the police. When he approached the police, the video showed him pointing the gun at them twice before officers fired multiple times. Kaphers was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. JSO said Kaphers had a criminal history that included aggravated assault with a weapon, false imprisonment of a minor, and other charges.
